Occasional Ruminations and Advice on Intimate Weddings and Celebrations
Congratulations on finding your special someone! Now that you’ve chosen who to spend your life with, you've probably begun to imagine just what that once-in-a-lifetime moment will be like the day you wed. There's really no limit to the ways you can personalize your wedding and so there's a huge array of vendors, venues and planners out there, ready and waiting to plan and choreograph your day to the smallest of details and sell you the latest fashions and all the "must have" things to make your day "real" and special. It's all part of the fun for many, but for others the expense and stress of planning a lavish affair can become overwhelming.
Fortunately, however, your "Dream Wedding" doesn't have to be extravagant or over-the-top to be perfect. Many couples have decided they would rather focus their energy and resources toward starting their lives together, and this trend is accelerating as more and more find an elopement, pop-up or "micro-wedding" to fit the bill perfectly. Even with a smaller and more intimate wedding, you can include the people and traditions that matter most, add romantic and elegant touches, express who you are as a couple and create memories to last a lifetime.
Elopements may conjure up the image of a bride and groom running away together for a secret ceremony or a "midnight special" in Las Vegas, but these days that no longer needs to be the case. Bring one or two of your closest friends to witness a "Sweet and Simple" ceremony at a scenic spot or a little wedding chapel, have a toast, share a piece of cake, get some special photos and let the world know you've tied the knot! A pop-up wedding can add to the fun with the joy and spontaneity it brings, so long as the place you've chosen is amenable.
For couples who wish to accommodate their closest family and well-wishers, an intimate wedding or "micro-wedding" can be just the ticket. An intimate wedding normally includes up to 20 or 25 guests and includes a few touches from larger affairs such as a flower display, a unity candle, hors d'oeuvres for the guests, a pretty cake, a first dance. Intimate weddings allow the happy couple to spend more time with those who matter most and planning is usually done in a single session, with room for last-minute adjustments that are easy to manage.
Turning your focus toward your marriage and your life together is the first step to "right-sizing" your wedding. Once you've decided to simplify, it's easy to design a personalized wedding celebration to cherish and remember that's uniquely you. Choose a date with special meaning or when your favorite relative is in town. How about a personalized vintage look? Smooth jazz or classic rock? Perhaps you’d like an outdoor setting if the weather holds. Find a place to walk in and elope on the spot or arrange a ceremony, romantic photos, a toast and cake-cutting, an overnight stay and more!
A right-sized wedding lets you enjoy a day that's perfect for you and leaves room to focus on what really matters - the two of you - as you live your dreams together. The only true "must haves" for your Dream Wedding are you and the one you love... the rest is up to you.
